Single Parents Help from the Government

It’s almost always monetarily difficult to raise a child by yourself. Offering for a family is costly, and sometimes it can seem incredibly difficult to do it on a single income. And you don’t have to do that on your own. Even two-parent households need little assistance. Although there are many non-profits and organizations dedicated to single parents, the government is also assisting. The six programs below may assist you with different economic needs that you may have.

LIHEAP 

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program offers energy billing and weathering aid to those in need. To find the LIHEAP program in your office, please call the National Energy Assistance Referral Hotline at 1-866-674-6327.

 

TANF’s 

Temporary financial support for families in need, or TANF, offers financial assistance to families in distress. It operates through state governments, and you’ll need to apply via your local agency.

 

SNAP 

If you have a hard time trying to feed your family, you may be eligible for SNAP benefits. They’re also run via state governments, so you can apply through your local human services office.

 

Head Start

Head Start is a government-funded child care program for children aged 0 to 5 years. They do provide social and health services to the families of the participants. Click on the link above and then find the Head Start program near you.

 

NSLP

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) offers free or low-cost school lunches for children in low-income families. Enquire your children’s school how to apply for this program.

 

WIC

The Women, Children, and Children program provide food assistance to pregnant women as well as mothers of children 5 years of age or younger. They do provide referrals and screening for extra services.

 

Don’t lose out on the help you need. This doesn’t have to be as much struggle to be a single parent. With a little help, you will provide your family with the way they want it. If these are not helpful, look for other organizations that might be able to help you out.
